Törggelen and culinary delights in South Tyrol
Törggelen is an old tradition in South Tyrol. It is known especially in the valley of Isarco/Eisacktal. Many years ago, when the leaves of the vineyards started to change colours it was time for harvest. After all the work of the harvest, the farmers used to have a great feast. Everyone who had helped was invited and could enjoy the must (new wine before fermentation) and the new wine.
What was served on this special day? Dumplings with Sauerkraut and smoked meat, homemade sausages, as well as cold platters with speck, smoked sausages (Kaminwurzen), cheese and the typical farmers bread. For a sweet treat there were Krapfen, a kind of donut and of course roasted chestnuts with butter. In our map you find all the information about typical farms for a special Törggelen feast.
